Trough Options

Having waterers strategically located is important for achieving maximum use of a pasture in a managed grazing system and for keeping the ground covered with vegetation to prevent erosion. - University of Missouri Extension

Both livestock watering options were designed for rotational grazing situations and can be conveniently integrated into a K-Line Irrigaiton system, or used as stand-alone products. Other situational uses for these products include the following...

  • Dry lots
  • Grazing cover crops
  • Temporary pasture
  • Rented ground
  • Rodeos
  • Stock shows
  • Long-distance hauling

Portable tanks and tubing allows for expanding water infrastructure without the major expense of permanent installations. The tanks can be moved with the livestock rotation, which provides a water source near the livestock and minimizes issues of trampling (compaction and mud) that would otherwise occur in areas surrounding permanent tanks.    -Nebraska Extension

Although portability and durability don’t often go hand-in-hand, the PortaTank is an exception! The tank itself weighs less than 26 lbs. but, because of the proprietary blend of low-medium density polyethylene, is incredibly shatter and crack resistant. The combination of portability, durability, and high-capacity recharge rate is sure to make this tank a favorite for rotational livestock graziers.

It's lightweight enough to toss in the back of the truck or drag behind an ATV (even across gravel) but strong enough to hold up to freezing/thawing stress and repeated hoof action. No more buying a new plastic trough every year!

One PortaTank should be suitable for 60-100 head of cattle in most situations. For larger herds, an expansion kit and additional tank(s) can be purchased so multiple tanks can run off the same water supply. This will also help minimize hoof action around a single tank and assist in preventing excessive soil compaction.

K-Line, North America's Drag Trough is built to last a lifetime. All fittings are protected under or inside of the structure. The skid frame is wide at the base, giving more stability to the width of the tank, making it difficult for livestock to disturb. Additionally, the trough body is tapered from top to base which prevents livestock from standing in it and keeps the center of gravity in the middle of the skid, permitting supreme stability. The float is contained in it's own protected compartment in the middle of the tank and the compartment's lid is easily removed for float repairs or replacement.

K-Line Drag Trough

K-Line, North America's Drag Trough is built to last a lifetime. All fittings are protected under or inside of the structure. The skid frame is flared at the base, giving more stability to the width of the tank, making it difficult for livestock to disturb. The float is contained in it's own protected compartment in the middle of the tank and the compartment's lid is easily removed for float repairs or replacement.

Features

  • Wide base prevents tipping.
  • Long lasting stainless steel container and heavy steel frame ensure longevity.
  • Center placement of fittings and float valve permits ease of placement on sidehills.
  • External fittings are attached directly to the frame via a bracket. This places less strain on the fittings while being towed, ensuring connections are less likely to break and saves time by not needing to disconnect the water source with each move.
  • Quick access lid protects float and connections in the middle compartment.
  • Designed to connect to durable, long-lasting 1.25" K-Line tubing (K-Pipe). K-Pipe is designed to be drug around pastures (even rocky ones), and walked on by livestock, without wearing down as other types of poly tubing will.
